In an awesome occurance, both protrayers of the best Frog in the known world, Kermit, were born today!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM HENSON!

(FYI: All the Muppets pictured here were voiced by Jim!)

Jim Henson would have turned 74 years old today. For a man I'd never met (but do live vicarously through
wouldbedorothy who did!) I think Jim and his creations have had the biggest impact in my life. From teaching me to be a better person, which I think Jim and co. did/do so brillantly while still making it fun, to letting me stay in touch with what makes you a kid, it's been an incredibly fulfilling part of my life journey. The world still misses you, Jim.
(Just cause I want to share... one of my favorite Jim/Kermit pictures:)
AND EQUALLY I WANT TO WISH A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO STEVE WHITMIRE WHO TURNS 51 YEARS OLD TODAY!
Steve took over protraying Kermit after Jim's untimely death in 1990 and did such a spectacular job that even those of us like myself, who are ridiculous about the Muppets, can barely ever tell the difference. That is/was so important. Kermit is as much Steve's as he was Jim's. I thank Steve for his talent allowing Kermit to live on. Have a great one, Mr. Whitmire!
(This is my fave Kermit/Steve picture:)
Feel free to share the Jim, Steve or The Muppet love today! Comment with your favorite picture, icon, or just maybe favorite memory!

Date: 2010-09-24 08:50 am (UTC):)! I used to love the 'Rainbow Connection' song, and now my kids do too. I just love how timeless the Muppets are. They're so much love, and I can't imagine childhood without them being somewhere in the memories. The world definitely misses Jim Henson. ♥

Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.♫♪

Date: 2010-09-24 12:26 pm (UTC)My oldest daughter, who is 12 now, has autism. When she was a toddler, Kermit the Frog was the only TV character that made her smile and laugh; somehow they shared a true connection. We played the videos over and over.
How amazing that both men who gave Kermit his voice celebrate the same birthday.
Loved the pics, thanks for sharing! :)

Jim was one of the few people who lived up to that hope. I still miss him. What a lovely tribute, Kat. (And I love that picture with Jim and Kermit at the window.)
And as for me, at a tender age, I couldn't go to sleep without Rowlf. :)
Happy Birthday Jim. If there's a heaven, you're there.

Date: 2010-09-24 02:42 pm (UTC)I don't think there was anyone who has had as much of an affect and influence on children all over the world than Jim Henson and his legacy. :D
When I was in 5th grade, we did a Muppet inspired musical show and my grade sang The Rainbow Connection. I sat on top of the piano wearing my Kermit t-shirt and 'playing' my nephews Muppet banjo. One of my best memories from grade school. hehe :D

Date: 2010-09-25 01:52 am (UTC)Funny enough, I was actually watching old Muppet Babies episodes on YouTube earlier this week. Coincidence? I think not.
I've always loved Kermit, but Gonzo is my soulmate. ♥
