Nostalgia FTW: Video # 4

Hahahahaha!

Get down with your bad self, Bert!

I love this song and this skit. It's the original that aired in 1973. Bert is so awesome, srsly. I always enjoy when you get to see the full body versions of the characters! :)

"See the one with feathers. Right behind...oh, you didn't see him. That was Bernie. He's really a character. I tell you."

::snorts and giggles::

What is it with these guys and birds? Bert and pigeons, Gonzo and chickens? Part of me is positive it's a reference to the 1930's British feminine monikers. I can't tell you how often I get called a bird in London.

Also--in showing my total supreme geekness about anything Muppet--I think this skit was the first time they did a full body shot for any Muppet. It's either this or a "The Muppet Show" moment when they do a leaping deer-like creature's ballet.

In further evidence Bert and Ernie and Big Bird are all hanging out on my Christmas tree right now and of course they are doin' the pigeon.

Going to geek out with you here:

Technically the first full body Muppet is Splurge - the big purple monster who has a mega fondness for radishes - in Hey Cinderalla! which was made in 1965.

However --

You are correct! Other than Big Bird - who always walks around, lol - it looks like Bert was the FIRST time a standard waist up Muppet was FULLY shown with legs and all.

Oh! That leaping deer creature episode - TOTALLY the VERY first The Muppet Show episode! The Green Gazelles (the deer creatures) and Juliet Prowse (man, is she gorgeous) did that lovely ballet called "Solace". HEE!

I love you like dying. ::muah::

How have I never seen 'Hey Cinderella'? At my Uni not knowing the whole ouevre should be a crime! Cause for immediate expulsion!

Anyway. It was a beautiful ballet sequence. Very worthy of "Solace." The boxed set of the series is totally on my "When I get a Real Job" List along with soooo many others. Did you hear/see there's a DVD set for Sesame Street now that is "not for children's educational purposes"?

LOVE BACK.

PS- Is it good to be loved like dying? People generally don't enjoy dying. I mean we work really hard to avoid it. [ponders] You love me like dying? [whimpers] Whatever I did I'm sorry. I mean, can we talk about this? Couldn't you possibly love me like... a cold? The flu maybe? Not the Swine Flu because... Well, the Miss Piggy Flu would be ok.

You totally want to be loved like dying - the meaning of which is derived from Shakespeare's definition of dying and not the standard Webster's.
