What is it with these guys and birds? Bert and pigeons, Gonzo and chickens? Part of me is positive it's a reference to the 1930's British feminine monikers. I can't tell you how often I get called a bird in London.
Also--in showing my total supreme geekness about anything Muppet--I think this skit was the first time they did a full body shot for any Muppet. It's either this or a "The Muppet Show" moment when they do a leaping deer-like creature's ballet.
In further evidence Bert and Ernie and Big Bird are all hanging out on my Christmas tree right now and of course they are doin' the pigeon.
