I have always had an immense respect for teachers even before I wanted to be one.

But I got to say that having to deal with a teenager every day as the authorative position they want to hate on, I fucking think teachers should be canonized.

For real.

I teach 5th-12th; my the teacher who does the same job in the elem school teaches K-4. We are in awe of each other. She cannot believe I like spending time with teenagers, and I do not want to fathom spending the day with "little kids".

The hormone roller coaster which is 7th-12th is quite a trip. One day they are helpful and kind; one day there is angst over the latest boy/girl friend; the next you encounter hatred and meanness you thought only existed in dictatorships. I've been shoved, told off, given gifts, told jokes, let in on secrets...all in a day's work.

Overall I find it incredibly rewarding as a third career. I believe that each one of my students can grow up and be a decent human being. I never felt like that with the people I worked with or the clients I had in any of my former lives.

Hang in there. There's a good chance the kid will be "normal" tomorrow ;-)

*hugshugshugs* So much respect for teachers. My dad was one and I tried at a summer computer camp (and it was fun) but also SO hard. I didn't even have the teenagers. :P *hugshugshugs*

i love teaching! I love dealing with teenagers even when i go hone and cry after work because they were so nasty.

My major was Elementary Education. I never taught a day in my life after student teaching. I knew it was not for me - I have mad respect for people who have the calling.
